Evolutionary Astrology: Prescription, Not Description
If you’re a Capricorn, I’m sure you’ve read about how you are ambitious, disciplined, and practical. Or maybe that you are a hard worker who is reserved and loyal. While these descriptors may resonate with some Capricorn natives, they won’t necessarily fit for all.
Even though pop astrology hinges upon describing the traits associated with each sign, it can be dicey to predict how personalities will manifest with astrology. Human beings are just too complex to fit into descriptive boxes, not to mention that our personalities tend to shift as we change and grow!
According to the Steven Forrest Method, evolutionary astrology looks beyond the description to the prescription. In evolutionary astrology we look at what Capricorn reveals about the specific prescription for your soul’s healing and growth in this lifetime. After all, your current personality—while useful to understand, in order to utilize your gifts most consciously—is ultimately temporary. It’s your soul that continues on.
So, what does the presence of Capricorn in your birth chart say about your soul? What is your soul majoring in if you have planets in Capricorn? What skills are you here to practice? What kinds of experiences are you here to pursue?
Find the Right Mountain to Climb
Capricorn is the Sea-goat, a creature who is capable of traversing not only the highest, steepest mountains, but the deepest, most tumultuous waters. As someone with Capricorn in your natal chart, your soul has incarnated with the intention of evolving through hard work, self-discipline, and integrity. You are here to develop the tenacity, commitment, persistence, and follow through that is required to accomplish long term goals.
The Sea-goat needs a mountain to climb. But which mountain is the right one for you? This is the most important question for Capricornian people to ask themselves, and finding the true answer requires self-awareness, honesty, and intuition. Who are you and what are you meant to be committing yourself into in this lifetime?
Capricorn Needs Solitude
As a Capricorn, you are vulnerable to absorbing the value systems which have been imposed upon you by others—by culture, family, tradition, socialization. If this training you’ve received remains unconscious and unacknowledged, you run the risk of spending your life climbing the wrong mountains; applying yourself to a goal that you were told is desirable but means nothing to your soul.
With Capricorn in the natal chart, you are at a point in your soul's evolutionary journey where you need time alone. You are learning to embrace solitude. Solitude allows you the necessary time to reflect upon what is true for you and where to direct your attention. What goals are worthy of your focus and determination? What is your Great Work in this lifetime?
High or Low Manifestation? The Choice is Yours
Evolutionary astrology does not label certain placements as positive and others as unfortunate, or negative. Through the lens of evolutionary astrology, every sign has a high manifestation, as well as a lower manifestation. How you respond to Capricorn depends on your level of maturity and self-awareness.
The highest, most conscious, evolved version of Capricorn involves applying yourself to long term goals worthy of your persistence and focus, while also being mindful of going overboard—remember that you are a human with bodily and emotional needs. For your soul, the evolutionary juice and learning comes through facing intimating challenges. High Capricorn has high standards and integrity, and is an expert at delayed gratification.
A poor response to the Capricorn in your chart will lead to burnout, as you will hold yourself to standards so high and unrealistic that they require you to be super-human. Low Capricorn is often controlling and critical of self and others. On the flip side, a poor response to Capricorn can also look like laziness and skating by on your innate gifts, instead of putting in the hard work and effort characterized by the high Capricornian evolutionary path.
Where does Capricorn land in your chart? How well are you doing with it?
