Evolutionary Astrology: Prescription, Not Description
If you’re a Leo, I’m sure you’ve read about how you are confident, charismatic, and creative. Or maybe that you enjoy being the center of attention and entertaining others. While this is a description that might resonate with many Leo natives, it won’t necessarily fit for all.
Even though pop astrology hinges upon describing the traits associated with each sign, it can be dicey to try to predict how personalities will manifest with astrology. Human beings are simply too complex to fit into descriptive boxes, not to mention that our personalities tend to shift as we change and grow!
According to the Steven Forrest Method, evolutionary astrology looks beyond the description to the prescription. In evolutionary astrology we look at what Leo reveals about the specific prescription for your soul’s healing and growth in this lifetime. After all, your current personality—while useful to understand, in order to utilize your gifts most consciously—is ultimately temporary. It’s your soul that continues on.
So, what does the presence of Leo in your birth chart say about your soul? What is your soul majoring in if you have planets in Leo? What skills are you here to practice? What kinds of experiences are you here to pursue?
Leo is Authentic Self-Expression
Leo, being associated with the Lion, is an energy that focuses around the need to be seen and appreciated by other people. The Lion is the king of the jungle for a reason—Lions have a powerful presence. With prominent Leo in your natal chart you are here to learn how to embody confidence and to “step out on stage,” allowing others to get a taste of who you really are (even if that stage is only telling a joke to a couple of friends—-not all Leos are extroverts or literal performers!)
You are here to practice congruence in your self-expression—what you see is what you get with the highest expression of Leo—as opposed to fakeness, posturing, or people-pleasing. While it can be tempting to give people what they want in order to gain approval and popularity, the path toward growth for Leo requires genuine authenticity and the willingness to embrace the vulnerability that comes along with it. Not everyone is going to understand you, and that’s ok.
Leo is about Finding Your People
However, it is particularly important if you have prominent Leo energy in the natal chart to look for people who actually DO understand and appreciate who you are. Leo in the natal chart indicates that you came into this lifetime carrying a soul-wound around feeling isolated, alone, and misunderstood, and you are here to heal your sense of belonging and connection within the human family. This healing will come about through engaging in ongoing energetic exchange with others: you put yourself out there, offering the world your unique perspective, and your people respond with positivity and enthusiasm. This is potent soul-medicine for Leonian people.
High or Low Manifestation? The Choice is Yours
Evolutionary astrology does not label certain placements as positive and others as unfortunate, or negative. Through the lens of evolutionary astrology, every sign has a high manifestation, as well as a lower manifestation. How you respond to Leo depends on your level of maturity and self-awareness.
The highest, most conscious, evolved version of Leo means engaging in genuine, spontaneous creative self-expression, allowing others to understand your unique perspective and have a window into your internal, subjective state. Leo is about giving yourself permission to take up space and shine, while also supporting others in doing the same. High Leo knows that the world is a better place when everyone contributes their unique gifts and talents.
If you are not responding well to the Leo in your chart, you will focus solely on the desire to receive applause at the expense of authenticity. Low Leo is people-pleasing, attention-seeking, and seemingly obsessively self-focused. When responding poorly to Leo placements you will see life as a competition for the spotlight and seek to be the center of attention as a way of hiding your self-doubt and fear of rejection.
Where does Leo land your chart? How well are you doing with it?
