Evolutionary Astrology: Prescription, Not Description

If you’re a Scorpio, I’m sure you’ve read about how you are intense, determined, and loyal. Or maybe that you are sexy, passionate, and have a strong intuition. While these descriptors may resonate with some Scorpio natives, they won’t necessarily fit for all.

Even though pop astrology hinges upon describing the traits associated with each sign, it can be dicey to predict how personalities will manifest with astrology. Human beings are just too complex to fit into descriptive boxes, not to mention that our personalities tend to shift and change as we grow!

According to the Steven Forrest Method, evolutionary astrology looks beyond the description to the prescription. In evolutionary astrology we look at what Scorpio reveals about the specific prescription for your soul’s healing and growth in this lifetime. After all, your current personality—while useful to understand, in order to utilize your gifts most consciously—is ultimately temporary. It’s your soul that continues on.

So, what does the presence of Scorpio in your birth chart say about your soul? What is your soul majoring in if you have planets in Scorpio? What skills are you here to practice? What kinds of experiences are you here to pursue?

Scorpio is Facing the Darkness

If you had incarnated with significant Scorpionic energy in your natal chart then you have come here to practice psychological courage. Your soul’s evolution at this point in your journey depends upon your willingness to withstand the discomfort of looking honestly at your own wounded places and the (often unsavory and embarrassing) ways those wounds manifest through your own reactions, thoughts, and feelings.

You have come here to be unflinchingly honest with yourself about what you see when you turn your attention inward. You have come here to make what is unconscious in you, conscious. This kind of deep psychological work is not for the faint of heart, as it often involves facing the deepest fears, vulnerabilities, and shameful places within us.

Scorpio is Emotional and Relational Intensity

Scorpio is inherently a relational sign, which means much of the soul-growth for Scorpionic people happens in the context of relationships, but not just any and all relationships. As a Scorpionic person you will grow in relationships that are authentic and psychologically naked. Relationships where there is permission to say and feel anything, even if it’s taboo and would be considered inappropriate in all other contexts. You need partners and friends who are not scared off by emotional intensity and immediacy. As a Scorpio, you are practicing the ability to face the Shadowy side of life head on with maturity and wisdom.

High or Low Manifestation? The Choice is Yours

Evolutionary astrology does not label certain placements as positive and others as unfortunate, or negative. Through the lens of evolutionary astrology, every sign has a high manifestation, as well as a lower manifestation. How you respond to Scorpio depends on your level of maturity and self-awareness.

The highest, most conscious, evolved version of Scorpio represents an awareness of one’s personal power and the understanding that with great power comes great responsibility. You are here to learn how to wield power responsibly and wisely. When you have planets in Scorpio you have incarnated to increase your awareness of psychology, of both your own and that of others, and how psychological dynamics impact human beings. High Scorpio is about facing your deepest fears and healing your deepest wounds. It’s about honest confrontation and investigation of the Shadow, of things that are unsettling, such as death.

If you are not responding well to the Scorpio in your chart, you might weaponize psychological power and use it to manipulate and control others. Low Scorpionic people are addicted to drama and intensity, to the point where they tend to create it everywhere they go. Immature Scorpio can also manifest as obsessive naval gazing or commitment to victimhood.

Where does Scorpio land your chart? How well are you doing with it?
