Evolutionary Astrology: Prescription, Not Description
If you’re a Pisces, I’m sure you’ve read about how you are sensitive, imaginative, and romantic. Or maybe that you are prone to escapism and can be quite moody. While these descriptors may resonate with many Pisces natives, they won’t necessarily fit for all.
Even though pop astrology hinges upon describing the traits associated with each sign, it can be dicey to predict how personalities will manifest with astrology. Human beings are simply too complex to fit into descriptive boxes, not to mention that our personalities tend to shift as we change and grow!
According to the Steven Forrest Method, evolutionary astrology looks beyond the description to the prescription. In evolutionary astrology we look at what Pisces reveals about the specific prescription for your soul’s healing and growth in this lifetime. After all, your current personality—while useful to understand in order to utilize your gifts most consciously—is ultimately temporary. It’s your soul that continues on.
So, what does the presence of Pisces in your birth chart say about your soul? What is your soul majoring in if you have planets in Pisces? What skills are you here to practice? What kinds of experiences are you here to pursue?
Identifying with Your Soul
Pisces is the last sign in the zodiac. It is the culmination of a process that began with Aries, the energy of birth and new beginnings bursting forth saying “I AM!” And while Aries is a Fire sign and is associated with the 1st house in the natal chart, Pisces is a Water sign and is associated with the 12th, and last house, in the natal chart. If we view the progression through the zodiac signs through the lens of human development, we start at ground zero with Aries: the formation of the individual, of personhood. Then we work our way through the development of our self-worth and our embodiment with Taurus; our ability to communicate effectively with Gemini; an understanding of our inner world and our emotions with Cancer; the ability to express ourselves creatively and to play with Leo; we find meaningful work and learn altruism with Virgo; we learn about the I-Thou relationship and how to relate to others with Libra; we learn to face our own psychological wounds squarely and honestly with Scorpio; to find a sense of faith and meaning with Sagittarius; discover the Great Work of our lifetime with Capricorn; and discover who we are as an individual with Aquarius, until we end up at the Fishes, the most mystical sign.
By the time we get to Pisces we have a well-rounded, robust and healthy ego structure borne out of the gifts and challenges of the signs that came before it. The energetics of Pisces are resonant with the phase of life where we are ready to transcend our beloved ego and begin identifying with something larger than the personality we chose for this incarnation. We are ready to identify more with our Soul.
The highest, most conscious manifestation of Pisces is a sense of direct connection with God, Spirit, the Universe–choose your word. You are here to connect more consciously with your Soul, the part of you that transcends the confines of life and death; the part of you that is all-knowing, wise, and deeply compassionate.
You Should Meditate
As someone with planets in Pisces, you have come here to practice connecting with your Soul. You have come here to strengthen your ability to access your inner Witness and one of the best ways to facilitate this type of spiritual evolution is through meditation. A formal mindfulness meditation practice is always a good option, but there are many informal ways to “meditate” in everyday life that will feed you as a Pisces. Any kind of quiet time where you can allow your mind to wander is good medicine for you and is necessary in order to avoid the negative stereotypes associated with Pisces: spacey, forgetful, dissociative, avoidant, escapist, etc.
These challenging tendencies are simply your nervous system telling you that it’s overwhelmed and needs a break in order to go within and process. It is important for you, as a Piscean person, to schedule in these “meditation” breaks, lest you find yourself spacing out at inopportune times, experiencing excessive forgetfulness, or struggling with addictive behaviors (all addiction is a form of numbing out).
High or Low Manifestation? The Choice is Yours
Evolutionary astrology does not label certain placements as positive and others as unfortunate, or negative. Through the lens of evolutionary astrology, every sign has a high manifestation, as well as a lower manifestation. How you respond to Pisces depends on your level of maturity and self-awareness.
The highest, most conscious, evolved version of Pisces is compassionate, visionary, imaginative, and kind. Piscean people functioning at this level aren’t inclined to take themselves or their circumstances too seriously because they are attuned to the bigger picture at play and are, therefore, able to keep things in perspective.
Not responding well to the Pisces in your chart can look like all kinds of avoidant and escapist behavior. While high Pisces can keep perspective but is simultaneously able to face and acknowledge hard truths, less conscious vibrations of Pisces will engage in spiritual bypassing and use “love and light” to protect themselves from difficult emotional experiences.
Where does Pisces land in your chart? How well are you doing with it?
